My goal was to merge the playful poster artwork (made by Evren Tekinotay) with the commercial look of the Stiften newspaper addition!

I had to create something new, fresh and bubbling and at the same time keep things from getting to abstract!

They wanted me to incorporate different elements that where explanatory of the festival theme and content. This years theme was the years from 1900 -1950. So the elements for this years poster where much more concrete than last years. This was because we where dealing with tangible things, as retro cars, war, weapons, planes, ration coupons and inventions of the time. Very quickly the colors and pictures I found, decided what color scheme I would be working ind. So many of the elements where dark and heavy colorwise, so I decide to follow that lead.

It was important for them to show a researcher from the university as a focal point, because the festival in different ways is about education for the population and they want the researchers to be the center of this. So we had Tone a female gender researcher be the model. I love that her research and her gender and looks are in contrast to the way she is seen on the cover.

A very popular pose in the twenties and thirties amount the young actresses was to reveal some of the back and the face at the same time, so thats why I chose to have her strike a pose as she did.

The last important thing for me to keep in mind was that this artwork had to work on so many different levels. It had to be an eye catcher and a strong communicator and at the same time it had to be able to be spread out on many platforms. Such as posters ranging in size from A1 to A5, banners, web, badges, newspapers ads, and the A4 sized festival catalogue.

I started out by doing some research. I wanted to get an overview of what was trendy and what would be on the verge of trending.

I was inspired by a lot of different trends. And I chose a variety of these, which could fit the CAT DNA, my personality, and at the same time an easy to use product for women.

Multifunctional : Multifunctional was a key word for me, So that the bags can be carried in two ways. The backpack can be worn as a backpack or be carried as a shoulder bag, using the shoulder strap.

Brass/ rings : For the hardware I was inspired by rings and incorporated them into the shoulder straps, and together with webbing I feel the straps have a more light and fashionable look.

Laptop and living, on the go : I made the bags spacious so there would room for a laptop, and at the same time a lot of lady stuff like a scarf, or gloves or lip gloss, cream or a notebook. For the backpack I wanted the bag to have a good fit on the back so it was important that it did´nt get to big and masculine.

That is also why the flap is round, to maintain the feminine feel being soft and round and organically shaped.

Comfortable : I made the backpack straps wide and with an extra padding detail so they don´t hurt the shoulders even when carrying a heavy load.

I designed the backpack so when carrying it you will still be able to reach you keys in the side pocket. Tha kind of functionality is important for me in my everyday life on my way home from the office, so I don´t have to take the backpack of to get my keys or earplugs.

Regarding textures I wanted to combine the functionality with fashion details where there is a lot of emphases on merging different textures in one design. So I used PU and webbing together with the main fabric.

Gym bags : The floppy look of gym bags is incorporation in the top of the Tote which is designed so it can flap to either side while being carried using the shoulder straps.

Allover prints + surprising details : It was important for me that even the inside of the bag was full of details. The finishing details on the inside pockets and the lining with at POW of color when opening.

But basically I used spray paint to spray in a water bath , moved the paint around with a stick / pensel and the dipped the wood pieces into the bath. When you pull them up, the paint sticks.

I have gone for a clean, airy look to lift and open the premises. Everything in “Bruun’s Galleri is man-made, so I wanted to create breathing holes, some windows and portals in to new worlds the viewer is free too explore.

I think that the different parts envision pieces of puzzle and are reminiscent of how we fit together or do not match. We are many different people who are moving past each other every day, and around us and between us there is empty air. Hence the name Vacuum. The void that is being filled between us by air.

The closest we can come to nothing, is what we call vacuum. Vacuum is, from a physical point of view, bursting with potential. An  example of this could be a baby. A baby may be nothing, but it has a huge potential to be many things. It is the same with vacuum, in a vacuum, there is nothing. However, there is a possibility that all can be generated.

I’ve worked on five keywords: Experiences, Life, New, Joy and Love.
Here is a selection of some of the associations that I got from the different words, which I have used in relation to the inspiration search.

Life: Light as a symbol, sunlight, sun over the city, street lamps, sunrise, nature, waves, sand, deep calm and fog, a factory silo, here created things, new things, creation. Building facades that look like stripes, the dualism between the dark and the light, life and death. The changing seasons, winter (snow) and summer (sun).

The new: Bubbling, stairs, steps, ladder, bridge railing, space travel, flight, horizon, steam.

Joy: Movement, interaction of the various forms and elements, bubbles that children are excited about and bubble over and find it difficult to remain calm. Childish joy glare.

Love: Closeup of a carport door, a symbol of one’s home “home is where the heart is” close-ups of storm = passion and turbulence that can be compared. Skin and bodies closely linked.

Experiences : Stairs, ladders, flight, travel, mountains, landscape, parts of a mast of a sailing ship, sea, car parts, road trip.

This work stems from a digital collage I made in the fall. I was curious to see how much asymmetry I could work with while still maintaining a calm and general balanced composition.

I see the work as a hanging Still Life, and think its movement and life is a welcome contrast to the many square frames that I otherwise use.

The different pieces are 12 mm laser cut wood, the finish on the edges are raw and burnt from the laser.

I love to throw a lot of patterns together and find the compositional harmony within the mess. For some time now I have been fascinated by terrazzo, ship rope and brass, and wanted to incorporate it into a piece of artwork.

The rope and the custom cut brass was easy enough, but to achieve a terrazzo look I had to go to Garant and browse their stock. I found some different patterns which I thought appropriate. It is a relatively easy material to work with, a sharp pair of scissors and you are good to go.
The thesis I work from is basically that I use large and small patterns that make noise. To achieve peace, their must be something quiet, either colors or images that exude tranquility.

The different pieces are 6 mm laser cut wood, the finish on the edges are white.

A Visual reminder for making the healthy choices. We as humans now that if we eat food that is alive, it will help us stay alive and at great health.

A lot of the products we call food are not really feeding anything accept obesity and illness.

Instead of meat I have used a hand for the hamburger, a finger instead of a sausage and ears substitute the mushrooms. It may look macabra but maybe it is not so much different that what really is in them.

Choose life – and choose the real living foods.
